Praiano is a fishing village on the Amalfi Coast. Less crowded than Positano, it offers unique quiet and peacefulness. Located on a promontory (Isca Rock), which divides the town in two parts, its landscapes are the best of the Amalfi Coast. On one side of the town they embrace Li Galli Islands, the whole coastline from Positano to Capri and Faraglioni Rocks; from the other side it is possible to admire the suggestive promontory of Capo di Conca with its tower.

Discover here the five most magical spots in Praiano for breathtaking views:

La Gavitella

La Gavitella is a small, rocky beach on the western side of Praiano, from where it is possible to admire Positano, Li Galli Islands and Faraglioni Rocks. Its steep cliffs make it an enchanting location. This beach is reachable only by the sea or from the city center by 400 stairs. If you are a natural paths lover, we truly suggest reaching this bay by foot, otherwise, a relaxing boat cruise will be the best option! Here it is possible to enjoy a pleasant beach day and a traditional lunch featuring freshly caught fish at the beach club and restaurant of the same name “La Gavitella”. We truly suggest a stop to this venue for a “live like a local experience!”

Marina di Praia

Marina di Praia is another small beach in Praiano on the east side of the town. Few people know that this beach is actually located between two municipalities, Praiano and Furore. This bay resembles a Fjord, because it is located between two high mountains. Its main feature is the little exposure to the sun, which manages to caress the whole beach only around Midday, but this makes it a suggestive place due to the crystal colour that the sun gives to the water. Here are some nice restaurants and beach clubs where to relax. The beach can be reached by many ways: foot, bus, car, scooter or boat. The best way is absolutely by the sea with a private boat tour where you will have the opportunity to admire the historic Saracen tower located near the beach, the Scoglio dell’Isca a rocky formation detached from the coast and jutting out of the sea where you can pass through it with the boat and the Grotta dell’Africana, a natural cave dug by the sea into the rock, characterized by stalagmite, a suggestive grotto that you can explore aboard your boat.

Church Square
of San Gennaro

San Gennaro’s Square is something unbelievable. It combines the wonderful landscape of the west side of Praiano including Positano, the Li Galli Islands and Capri’s Faraglioni Rocks, with a colourful, majolica flooring, handcrafted using the mosaic technique using pieces of tiles created in Vietri sul Mare. You will have the impression of looking towards the infinite from the comfortable bench that unfolds all around the square. The traditional Church dedicated to San Gennaro towers over this magical square. This San Gennaro’s Square is often a meeting place for the locals, known as Praianesi. You can therefore often meet children playing in the churchyard, elderly people enjoying the tranquillity of the place and couples in love admiring the sunset.

Church Square of San Luca

On the upper east side of Praiano, there is another fascinating church square, the one in front of the Church dedicated to San Luca. This area is set amongst Praiano’s houses and it is reachable only on foot. Here the view is over the promontory of Capo di Conca, topped by the Saracen tower “Torre Bianca”. On this square you will have the feeling to be in an ancient village, out of the contemporary world.

San Domenico Convent

San Domenico Convent is the last spot of the list but the most beautiful and most challenging to reach. Still when one gets there after climbing a very long staircase, all the effort will be fully repaid by the view. From this ancient convent built in 16th century by Domenican friars, it is possible to enjoy a stunning view of Vettica di Praiano, Positano, Li Galli and L’Isola di Capri. You will feel suspended between heaven and earth. The unparalleled beauty of the site and its solemn, silent and solitary appearance made it an ideal place of worship.
