ITINERARY
We cast off from Molo Manfredi, Salerno, at 09:30 — just a five-minute walk from the cruise terminal.
Your skipper welcomes you and briefs you on the day as the harbour slips behind you and the coast opens up.
The first stretch takes you past Vietri sul Mare, where centuries of ceramic tradition have coloured every rooftop and balcony of the coast, and on to Cetara — a tiny fishing village whose colatura di alici, an ancient anchovy condiment traded since the 10th century, is considered more precious than truffle by those who truly know Italian food.
We stop at the Grotta di Pandora, a natural limestone cave carved by the sea near Maiori, where the water is turquoise, cold and completely private. Entry inside the grotto is optional.
From there we continue past Maiori — the widest beach on the entire coast, framed by the medieval Torre Normanna — and on to Minori, where the Romanesque basilica of Santa Trofimena rises above the waterfront, and to Atrani, one of the smallest municipalities in Italy: a dense labyrinth of white houses, arches and staircases that most land tourists never find, unmistakable from the sea.
We then arrive in Amalfi (Optional short stop on land). From the water, the golden mosaic facade of the Duomo di Sant’Andrea fills the horizon — the most photographed view on the coast, and the one that no land angle quite captures
Then we continue along the coast, first passing by Capo di Conca, with its ancient watchtower perched dramatically above the sea, offering one of the most iconic panoramic viewpoints of the Amalfi Coast.
From there, we head toward the Fiordo di Furore, one of the most dramatic natural spectacles on the Italian coastline: a narrow fjord sliced between two walls of rock, with an ancient stone bridge suspended thirty metres above the sea, where the world cliff-diving championship is held each year. We cruise slowly through it.
Just beyond the fjord lies Marina di Praia — a tiny fishing hamlet tucked into a cove so narrow it barely fits a handful of colourful boats. The tower of the Assiola guards the entrance, and the houses cling to the cliff as if placed there by hand. One of the most intimate corners of the entire coast.
From Marina di Praia, we can dock at La Gavitella in Praiano (Optional stop for lunch at a restaurant) — a terrace restaurant perched directly above the sea, reachable only by boat. If you would like to stop for lunch, we will reserve your table in advance.
We then pass slowly in front of Positano (Optional short stop on land). The view from the sea is simply the best in the world for this village: the full cascade of pastel houses, the majolica dome of Santa Maria Assunta, the terraced gardens and the beach below, all at once. Your skipper slows down, narrates, and gives you time to photograph.
During the trip, there will be stops for a swim and to enjoy prosecco and limoncello.
WHY CHOOSE A PRIVATE TOUR WITH POSITANO BOATS
The Amalfi Coast by road means traffic, winding mountain switchbacks, and sharing the view with hundreds of other tourists. By sea, the coast opens up completely: every cove, every grotto, every village from a perspective that only a handful of travellers ever see.
Positano Boats has operated in these waters since 2005. Our skippers are locals — grew up swimming in these coves, who know where the clearest water is on any given day, and who take genuine pleasure in sharing the coast they love. Every detail of this tour — the timing, the swim stops, the lunch reservation at La Gavitella — has been designed around the rhythm of a cruise day in Salerno.
